This photo shows the bridge for Rallarvegen over Finseå. In front of me was Finse. I had bicycled on Rallarvegen for nearly 6 hours, and my stomach told me that it was time for a meal in Finse. (Photo at 17:10:41, August 1 2006)
A beautiful view toward the Hardangerjøkulen glacier, from the shore of Finsevatnet. (Photo at 17:14:39, August 1 2006)
This photo shows two railway snowblowers, used on the Bergen Railway. The nearest snowblower is powered by a diesel engine, it can blow a cascade of snow circa 40 meters up into the air, and to the side of the railway. (Photo at 17:20:09, August 1 2006)
I took this photo outdoors of the railway station in Finse. The mountain passage with some snow, is named Finseskardet in Norwegian. To the left in the photo, there is an obelisk, the text tells “Thorbjorn LEKVE 1845–1897”. Thorbjørn Lekve was an engineer, and one of the first persons to suggest a railway line between Bergen and Oslo. He was personally involved in the preparatory work of the railway. After the political decision in 1894 to build the Bergen Railway, Lekve become the chief engineer for its realization. In 1908, the Norwegian Engineering- and Architect Association raised the obelisk in memoriam of Lekve. To the right of the obelisk, there are happy children playing, at this amazing place in Norway, named Finse. I like this photo of Finse at its best. (Photo at 17:20:20, August 1 2006)
