It was by this train I arrived to Finse from Oslo. The train stood still some time at the station, because of the many cyclists that went off in Finse. There were many bicycles to lift off from the train. Now at last, one day with nice weather! All of us thought. (Photo at 11:24:26, August 1 2006)

I took this photo outdoors of the workshop where I borrowed a robust bicycle, for my day trip on Rallarvegen. (Photo at 11:30:29, August 1 2006)
This photo shows the railway station in Finse. The signpost, on its wall tells that you are in: Finse, altitude 1222.2 meters above sea level, distance from Oslo 302.1 km, distance from Bergen 169.1 km.
The photo also shows the opening into a short snow shelter for the Bergen Railway, toward Bergen. Circa 150 meters beyond the snow shelter, the Bergen Railway enters into the 10.6 kilometers long Finse tunnel. In 1993, the Finse tunnel replaced the most weather and snow exposed distance between Finse and Lågheller. So, the railway I bicycled alongside of was the old railway track to Bergen. My target for the day was Kvinå, and from up there I took photos of where the Finse tunnel comes out at Lågheller. The snowdrifts on the old railway (and Rallarvegen) can at wintertime be as high as 8 meters! Snowdrifts with a depth of 4–5 meters are normal at wintertime in this area of Norway.
